Project Homeless Connect

Can you believe it is that time again?

For the past two years several of us have volunteered our time to work at Project Homeless Connect. The event is quickly approaching. This year it will take place on April 10th.

For those of you who have not participated this event is held at the Boutwell Auditorium for the homeless population. The past couple of years our volunteers have taken the role of Smiling Faces Client Guides. Basically you meet the client at the door and are with them while they are there. You take them through intake and each station they wish to visit. You are their friend for that time. There are always a few stories to share when the day is done.

I need to know if any of you have interest in volunteering this year? I would like to get us signed up as soon as possible, so if you would like to volunteer your day reply to this thread or let me know ASAP. Please include the time slot you would like:
6:30AM – 12:00PM
11:30AM – 4:30PM

Below is the official event description if you are interested.

On Saturday, April 10th approximately 1,500 volunteers, public servants, non-profit agencies, faith-based organizations, and citizens will assemble under one roof to help people who are homeless in our community through Project Homeless Connect. This innovative one-day event is about breaking the cycle of homelessness, increasing access to services and ending chronic homelessness in Central Alabama. For one day, Project Homeless Connect will give people experiencing homelessness the opportunity to access an array of services in a system which is often difficult to understand and navigate. Project Homeless Connect (PHC) links homeless individuals, veterans, and families to housing, medical services, identification services, veterans’ services, employment services, pet care and haircuts. Be a part of Birmingham’s solution to homelessness.
